Holiday doldrums or so it seems ..

The holidays continue to fail to produce a big time opening this year.  Based on estimates of the four movies released over the weekend December 27th to the 29th, none managed to make more than $20 million dollars.  Yes those are based on estimations but you have to admit, the crew over at Box Office Mojo have been pretty spot on when predicting openings.  One could also make the case that they opened on Christmas (fell on a Wednesday) and lost 2 days of receipts.  I checked, the numbers weren't that great.

Do not fret, we could actually experience our biggest Holiday total with the 10 movie pick 'em format.  The record stands at $494 million and some change which was set last year by Colleen.  Currently Jenna stands at $480 million and some change with 2 movies left while Chuck is at $470 million and some change with 3 movies remaining.  Either one has a chance.  All they need to do is weather January.  No way to describe it other than it's tough.  However, there are always exceptions to the rule, Mama. 

Opening up this weekend is Paranormal Activity 4 not to be confused with Devil's Due which is out next week.  Still want to go?  Well if your family members left and you didn't get a chance last week, try The Wolf of Wall Street or American Hustle.   Looking for anything good then The Hobbit, Frozen or The Hunger Games are your best bet.
