The Dilemma

Hello League, something was brought to my attention last week.  If you have been following news about movies as closely as I have not you would then notice that the release date for G.I. Joe: Retaliation has changed dramatically.  We are talking about March 2013.  The producers are all about money and this move is no different.  Apparently Channing Tatum’s (who played Duke in the 1st movie) fame has skyrocketed in recent months.  Well the producers were looking to cut him out in the second installment in hopes of distancing themselves from the movie.  Now they see dollar signs and they want him to be in it more.  So the movie is off to the editing room.

If you allow me to stand on my soapbox and reminisce for a minute, I loved G.I. Joe growing up.  I even had a G.I. Joe themed birthday party.  Although the cartoon series was on for like two years, the toys provided years of imagination to unfold.  It was action packed and really easy to follow.  This seems like it would lend itself to a pretty good action flick.  Think about it, you don’t have 50 years of story lines to follow and whenever you needed something, you just created a new character.  That’s all the cartoon series did and it worked.

Hollywood doesn’t grasp this concept.  In the first installment they changed characters, made everyone related and introduced a love triangle, what?  In the second installment, they killed off most of the Joes, brought in the original Joe (what), and continue to butcher a simple plot line.  Furthermore they made them look like every other elite fighting force.  Disgust doesn’t even begin to define it.
So getting back on topic, I would like you to voice your opinion on the following matter.  (You can to the above if you like as well but definitely to the following.) A couple of league members have drafted G.I. Joe and this release date change puts them in a bind.  There are several actions that I could take.  Would like to hear your thoughts!

OPTION #1:  Simply do nothing.  This is definitely the easiest for me, but it pretty much eliminates them for this season.  I would like it to remain competitive for all.

OPTION #2:  Count only 9 movies from each member and let everyone drop their lowest.  This might be used in the future seasons to prevent this from happening.  Also for the record, I am making a big deal about this.  These are ‘Blockbusters’ and can completely take someone out of the running.  For ‘The Rest’, you are up a creek, lol.  A particular creek that you don’t want to be on.

OPTION #3:  Let them pick another movie.  However, this could be bad or good.  Bad if the movie they wanted to change has already been released.  Good they are privy to information that was not available in April.  This brings us to ….

OPTION #4:  Let everyone exchange a movie if they so desire.  This is kind of like the injury rule in Ultimate Frisbee.  Personally I think option 3 & 4 are changing the game a bit.

OPTION #5:  Use the laws of averages.  Simply total up the box office receipts and average it by how many movies opened.  Foreseeable problem, those who pick dudes are penalized worse than those who have movies that don’t even open.  I want everyone to have a chance of winning, but you shouldn’t benefit from a movie not opening.

I like option 2 the best, but let me know what you think.
