Frankenstein has lost it's mojo.

I, Frankenstein failed to reached $10 million in it's opening weekend.  What does this all mean?  Well, it was the 6th best grossing movie this past weekend according to Box Office Mojo.  As for the league, not a whole lot.  Over the past couple of weeks we have seem some high releases (for January and the league has been shuffled.  Faith has moved out of last, Jenna has fallen one spot from first and Jamie looks to stay in front of Jeff for good.    

We have made it to the finish!  There is only one movie yet to be released and it is held by half the teams in the league.  And like the Super Bowl, we will have to wait two weeks before it opens.  The Monuments Men will finally open.  It was originally scheduled to open Christmas week.  While we wait, check out another Kate Winslet rough-go-it-drama or a Zac Efron bro-medy.

We have a new leader!

We have never done this before, but let's name a performer of the year!  It really has to go to Kevin Hart.  His comedy routine helped Jamie win The Others over the summer and his buddy comedy helped Chuck snatched the lead from Jenna during the holidays.  The man is raking it in!

Chuck has taken the top spot from Jenna.  For nearly the entire season, Jenna has been perched in first.  January has been good this year producing several Top 10 openings in our league.  One being Ride Along, was all Chuck needed to ascent to the top.  We are just a couple of weeks 'till the end.  Up this week is I, Frankenstein.

Crowded Holiday Weekend!

The leader has managed to weather all holiday weekends and surprise openings.  Even managed to avoid a few disastrous ones as well.  With the season winding down, we are on the eve of what could be a pivotal weekend.  Four movies are coming out with one re-release.  A buddy comedy sort of, an Over the Hedge knock off cartoon, Paranormal Activity 4 b (serious you can make a case with just the trailers), and the return of Jack Ryan all due to release this weekend.   The producers or somebody also thought it would be a good idea to bring Gravity back with the Oscars and all, you know. 

Can a weekend in January support a summer like box office receipt total?  We will soon find out.  If the take is good, we could see a new leader!  The lead has been very stagnant not only at the top but throughout.  There has only been a few changes this season and this could change things up considerably.  Or we have some more low totals to throw on the heap.  I believe it is quite big this year.

Can we give a shoutout to Lone Survivor for being this year's big January release!

The Box Office is Frozen ....

Let's give a shout out to Frozen for regaining the top spot.  In it's seventh week and absent from the top spot for a month, Frozen managed to hold off Paranormal Activity.  Maybe moving to January was not in the best interests of the franchise.  The real question, can Frozen continue on against Hercules?

With the help of The Marked Ones (Paranormal Activity), Jenna starts to pull away.  She now leads Chuck by $28 million and Ned $29 million respectively.  However, this league is far from over.  There are still four releases that could all play a role in determining the champion.  Will the cold spell drive people to the theaters or keep them away?  Stay tuned!

Holiday doldrums or so it seems ..

The holidays continue to fail to produce a big time opening this year.  Based on estimates of the four movies released over the weekend December 27th to the 29th, none managed to make more than $20 million dollars.  Yes those are based on estimations but you have to admit, the crew over at Box Office Mojo have been pretty spot on when predicting openings.  One could also make the case that they opened on Christmas (fell on a Wednesday) and lost 2 days of receipts.  I checked, the numbers weren't that great.

Do not fret, we could actually experience our biggest Holiday total with the 10 movie pick 'em format.  The record stands at $494 million and some change which was set last year by Colleen.  Currently Jenna stands at $480 million and some change with 2 movies left while Chuck is at $470 million and some change with 3 movies remaining.  Either one has a chance.  All they need to do is weather January.  No way to describe it other than it's tough.  However, there are always exceptions to the rule, Mama. 

Opening up this weekend is Paranormal Activity 4 not to be confused with Devil's Due which is out next week.  Still want to go?  Well if your family members left and you didn't get a chance last week, try The Wolf of Wall Street or American Hustle.   Looking for anything good then The Hobbit, Frozen or The Hunger Games are your best bet.
