This is it ...

Well, we are to the end.  What a road it has been!  Masses of teenage girls flocked the theaters to see a baby on opening weekend and then vanished("twi-hards" be gone).  Both 'Skyfall' and 'The Hobbit' are now out earning 'Twilight'.  Despite the critics, it looks like you can still bank on Bond and Tolkien (yeah for me!).

'Lincoln' proved to be everyone's favorite president while Maya tracked down Bin Laden (can you say Oscar).  The Farrelly's suffered yet another blow(I am still going to see it) however Tarantino scored with 'Django'.  Horror was in (for a change) and comedy was out (and now I am scared of mama).  Everyone like a guy named Ralph but sadly forgot a monster named Scully.

Just one movie left to open, 'Stand Up Guys'.  It opens this Friday along with 'Warm Bodies' and 'Bullet to the Head' (tough competition).  'Guys' needs to rake in $70 million in order for Chuck to catch Colleen.  This will be quite impressive due to the fact that it's opening on an estimated 450 screens (only).

You might have seen some changes and then changes back again and again and again.  All this changing will hoped to be resolved during the summer season!

Although not official ... yet, it's a repeat!

Another week is in the books and we are entering the second to last weekend!  Last week saw another horror movie take the top spot.  'Mama opened up to $28 million dollars.  This is the third straight weekend with a decent opening that would have placed in our picks.  Everyone might be looking to January next year for at least one (more) pick.

Colleen's top spot looks to be secured.  Chuck's last movie will have to gross around $70 million to take home the trophy.  Colleen's come from behind has lead her second win in a row.  She will be looking to make it a turkey this summer.  Chuck managed to move into second last weekend.  This drops Ned to third place in the overall.

Out this week is 'Hansel and Gretel', 'Parker', and 'Movie 43'.  I am intrigued by 'Movie 43', but otherwise it looks to be all action in the theaters this week. Don't forget 'Zero Dark Thirty' is still out there!

Update ...

There was no change in the league last week. 'Zero Dark Thirty' managed to open over $20 million placing it in the top 10 briefly.  Sadly no one drafted it.  Estimates for this last weekend puts 'Mama' with a $28 million opening.  Craziness, January has produced several movies that would have helped tremendously.  Stay tune til tomorrow one the stats will be updated.

The league has become stagnant.

'Texas Chainsaw's opening has come and passed.  Sadly only one player picked 'Texas Chainsaw' and they had it as their alternate.  It's a shame because 'Texas Chainsaw' did quite well.  In fact it crossed the $20 million dollar threshold.  Only eleven other movies have done that so far.  With only a handful of Blockbuster movies to come out, it could finish in the top fifteen.  Not sure too many of us would have picked it that high at the beginning of the season.

In the league, there were no changes hence the absence of the charts below.  All you need to do is click on the previous post to view what's happening in the league.  There are now just 4 weeks remaining.  The first of the final Blockbuster movies to open is the 'Gangster Squad' starring a few actors and actresses.  It will go up against 'A Haunted House' which is another Wayans' production.    Scary Movie was a drop off from it's predecessors so lets hope the time off allowed for new material.  The end is near!

We have a new leader!

The holidays have come and gone.  The clean up after the celebrations has started and everybody digs in for the cold winter months that lie ahead.  For some, Christmas was great and for others, they have seen better.  Newcomer Ned's bid to go wire to wire was cut short.  Colleen banked on the holidays and it payed off.  With 3 Blockbusters opening she was able to gain hold of the top spot.  There is just one month left to play.  Chuck has the only serious bid left to take the lead from Colleen.   On a bright note for Ned, he does manage to hold on to 'The Rest' category lead ... for now.

There are just five weekends left for the holiday season.  Thats right folks, January is upon us.  The dreaded barren month where many hopes and dreams have come crashing down.  You would think with the weather and the Oscars coming up, theaters would be packed.  It's just not the case.  To make matters even worse, movie studios seem to avoid the first weekend of the year like the plague.  Typically nothing comes out except for some daring producer who doesn't think their movie can even stand on one leg against anybody else.  This weekend is no exception with the release of 'Texas Chainsaw'.  The re-making of old horror franchises is the norm and to even further entice you they made it into 3D.  Time to kick back, stay warm and watch some movies!
