$2 billion by February, let's do this...

We are now entering the final month of the season. It's January 2016!  Just five ... long ... slow ... weeks remain.   All alone up there with no more openings perched is this season's leader.  Sitting and waiting, hoping for a repeat of October and early November releases.   Is the weather too frightening?  Are people out of money from the holiday spending spree?  Will Star Wars soak up all the ticket receipts?

The Force Awakens....

So let's get this straight, Star Wars Episode VII managed to rake in almost $248 million dollars at the box office this past weekend.  I heard some theaters even created new showings at 3:30am and 5:00am respectively.  It did on the other hand open on 4,134 screens nation wide (is on your side).

Let's play with some numbers.  Stars Wars or SW opened on 4100 screens making $248 million. That is averaging $59,982 per screen.  If SW was shown on each screen 8 times per day and selling for roughly $10 a ticket.  That would mean almost 250 people on average were seeing the show once the projector started.  Way to bring them back to the theaters Disney!  On another note, SW has currently made over $530 million dollars world wide (is on your side).

Closer to home, Mark better hope the low returns continue for the rest.  He is currently sitting on top in both the Blockbusters and Multipliers.  Sadly he is out of movies and now must play the waiting game.  It is really too close to claim victory.  I would love to make a Star Wars connection here but no SPOILERS gosh darn it!

Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?

It's here and finally.  Disney a couple of months ago launched a merchandising campaign that would rival any presidential.  There was no escaping it.  Whatever you wanted, they were selling it with a Darth Vader, R2-D2, Yoda, or Stormtrooper mug smiling right back at you.  Well a helmut in the case of the Stormtrooper.  Ok, Darth Vader doesn't really smile unless your toast is finished.

After perusing through a couple of stores during Black Friday here is what I saw. You can buy shower heads, watches, toasters, toiletries, ties, coffee mugs, travel mugs, socks, t-shirts, slippers, glasses, bowls, plant pots, kitchen timers, cork screws, high heels, aprons, measuring cups, pens, alarm clocks, sheets, towels, shower curtains, sheets, birthday cards, blankets and rugs.  Doesn't matter the store or company, chances are, they are selling something.  Legos, and a Millennium Falcon drone are some of the coolest toys.  Even a Death Star iHome could sit upon your night stand. For the serious why not buy a light saber from any of the following companies Vader's Vault, Acme Sabers, Ultra Sabers, Saber Forge, Hasbro, and Starfall.

I haven't even started on the books, comics, and cartoons.  I won't.  Not now.  If anybody has a link that will help tame that beast.  I will gladly take it!  The force is upon us, take it in and let's start this ride already...

There she blows........

Christmas is coming and not a flake in sight.  Actually 50 degree weather is forecasted which raises my spirits.  With age, blizzards and cold temps are not needed to be in the holiday spirit.  Apparently I am not the only one who has changed their impression of the holiday season.  Krampus opened to $16 million earning a spot in the top ten (for now).

Don't forget to submit your 3 The Others picks.  If you didn't receive the list last week by email notifying of Google Doc, let me know.  Colleen and I are in....

Santa is a bad guy....

Mark takes the top spot but it's definitely anybodies' game at this point.  Those with a few picks left are at the top and those with lots of movies left to open are at the bottom.  So the question on everybody's mind has to be will Xmas bring lots of moviegoers to the theater?  Or will January be dormant like usual?  Can John recover from Jem? Is anybody going to see a panda that knows kung fu...for the third time?  I guess that is a couple of questions.

Mark needs the low openings to continue, and that mentioned above panda to fall flat on his face.  Ned needs Star Wars to be ... well ... pedestrian.  Jenna is just banking on her nemesis Kevin Hart. It's the Holiday Season, just open already Star Wars!
