Welcome to Summer 2015! If the weather would ever agree there would be a lot more days spent outside. Due to the weather not agreeing here is a little activity if trapped inside yet again.
Mentioned in the last post, a question was proposed. Should we carry on? The responses were an overwhelming yes. We even picked up a few!
Included in this email are this years list to choose from. As always if you fine any that are not mentioned, just forward the title and I will add. You might notice that the list is really early! This is so that you have plenty of time to check out the trailers for the most optimum list.
The movies are spread out over 2 lists. This will make it easier for picking and maybe one day transferring it to a form. Drop down boxes are cool. You might have also noticed that The Others is significantly shorter. More on that later.
Beware the document is 2 pages long. The Blockbusters are included on the first page and The Others on the second along with the entry form. Your goal is to make the most money possible. Yes we are still looking for the perfect list. Maybe this year!
How to do that? Here are the rules. Let's start with terminology. Money or points are based on a movies Opening Weekend. An Opening Weekend consists of Friday to Sunday. Holidays that occur before (Wednesday, Thursday) and after (Monday, Tuesday) do not affect the totals. However, if a movie has a special opening, than I wait for wide release before adding the totals.
Their are two categories. the Blockbusters and The Others. Movies are placed in the categories based on how many screens that they are shown. The cutoff is typically between 1500 and 2000 screens.
You will notice on the second page that there is an entry form. Under the Blockbusters, you pick and rank your top 12 movies. 11 and 12 are used as alternates. Your total points are based on the top ten. The bottom two are there incase a movie doesn't open. A safety net you could say.
For The Others, you pick 8 from the list. How this work? I will take your top five openings so the picks can be in any order. This year you will submit two sets of The Other picks. This is so that we can choose more from July and August. I will send out the list in July. The format will be the same by selecting eight and your five highest will score. Kind of like a cross country race.
