Have all our movie options been purged!

Oh the one-liners that could be thought up right now for Planes: Fire & Rescue.  Out of respect for the Dutch, "Wij houden van Oranje" (that's for my brother-in-law), I will refrain.  That and orange is a pretty cool color, ahem Bears, Illini, the flying Dutchmen, Baltimore (wha...). Speaking of fast dudes and chicks on skates.  Did anybody see the Olympics this past winter?  If you watched any speed (not figure, boh-RING) skating then you saw people in orange suits dominating.  Like the only people standing on the podium dominating.  Like you didn't get a medal because all your country-men took them dominating.   Like if this was scored like a track meet, your team put up massive amounts of points and everybody else scrounged for scrapes dominating.  Kind of like Colleen in this league until last week ...  Well maybe if she was cloned like twice ... She ruled the top 3 spots for longer than a month and a half ... Orrr I guess you could say that Faith is dominating the last spot.  Nobody is even close!

I digress.  As you can see the movies that came out last week had little or no impact on the league.  This week looks to be the same.  For those of you who are pinning your hopes on Hercules, the bet still stands.  Well for that matter, anybody else can jump in.  We are all really just waiting for Guardians and Turtles to see how the league will play out.  The question remains, who is better Apes or Turtles?  Will Jeff take home his second straight summer title?  Can Colleen make a comeback in August? Will Faith continue to dominate last place all season?  Will the Dutch find a way to play soccer on skates, without popping the ball?  Stay tuned, this fight is about to get heavy!!!

A Most Wanted Man comes up which looks really good.  Sadly it will be one of Phillip Seymour Hoffman's last movies.  Also coming out is The Fluffy Movie.  After watching him a few times on Comedy Central, he has some comedic chops.  Not really sure what else there is to say other than John needs about ... oh ... 8 alternates.  Maybe the Dutch can loan you some!

The tables have turned!

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes came out big, about $70 million big.  They were tops at the box office with ease.   Up next is Pixar's latest, a dance off, and a sequel to the Purge.  Just a prediction but there is a pretty good chance that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will remain in the top spot in the foreseeable future in this country with little trouble.

After holding the top spot for the past month and a half, Colleen now finds herself in second for both the Blockbusters and Multipliers.  Question:  Can the Turtles come to Colleen's aid? Does anybody have the number for Splinter?

Ahhhh, run for you life. It's a ... monkey!

Hey hey we're the Monkees  (spelled 'ees')
and people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy singing,
to put anybody down.

I am not exactly sure if that is what ole' Caesar and his pals are singing when they are busying themselves with taking over the world!  See all the action this weekend.  Looking at the Box Office, Transformers took the top spot for the second weekend in a row.  However, overall it was a pretty slow holiday weekend.  Tammy came in second making only $28 million.

August isn't the most happening month when it comes to openings. For years, members have been penning their hopes of a comeback tale on movies such as Kick Ass 2, Total Recall, and Conan the Barbarian.  Sadly the rally popcorn buckets were put away and the ticket stubs were thrown out.  Most opened to dismal numbers leaving those who had such high expectations a little short in the box office receipt department.

This year looks to be no different!  There are three widely picked movies left to open this season.  Two of the three are are due to open in August, Guardians of the Galaxy and TMNT.  The other opens this weekend, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.  There are a few other movies out there but aren't forecasted to open big. (If you think Hercules is a sleeper, I am now taking side bets).  It could come down to those August movies deciding who will take home the crown this year.

Insert your Transformers morphing sound here!

So stating the obvious, Transformers came out and dominated the box office as expected.  In fact, it opened to a tune of $100 million.  This placed it on top as the best opening for the season to date.  However, this virtually had no impact on the league.  We all found room in our top 10 for this movie.   Did anyone notice that Faith moved to just under $2 billion behind first ever moving up slowly.  At this pace, she should be taking over the top spot sometime in August ... 2017.

It's the 4th of July ... weekend!  Yay for the short weeks, that is if you don't have the summers off.
There are three movies coming out this weekend.  They are kids discover an alien, good continues to battle evil, and a story about a lady named Tammy (yup, that's my selection if I am to go).  Sadly, none were picked so the league won't change even a little bit like last week.

So let's have a first half of the season wrap-up.  According to the stats there were no discrepancies.  The more movies you picked, the higher up in the standings you finished.  Case in point, Colleen and Jeff are in first and second respectively. Guess what? (chicken butt) They have had more openings than anyone else.  Don't believe me, look below.

In the first half we have seen Colleen rule in June with the help of (her) Neighbors.  Faith have one of the worse May's on record.  Four movies all open within $10 million of each other.  Seen the majority of our picks open.  In the second half we will see less openings.  The standings become stagnant.  A bunch of turtles from the sewers fight crime karate style with Italian Renaissance artist names.  Yeah, only in America!

Stay tuned to next week when we debate the space-time continuum mathematical model applied to the exact number of popped, partially popped and unpopped kernels in a bucket of popcorn times three.  More simply put, how much did Uncle Fred eat when he made not one but two trips to get a free refill.
