Happy New Year!

The Hobbit gains momentum over the holiday while Into the Woods edges out Unbroken in the theaters.   There is only a month left of openings as the leagues start to take shape.  In the Blockbusters, Jenna pulls away.  Only Mortdecai and/or The Wedding Ringer stand in her way to claim her first title.  For the Multipliers, Colleen lost her lead over the holiday to Jenna.  However, Jenna is out of movies and Colleen has The Wedding Ringer left to go.

You will notice looking below The Others have been updated.  Actually, the stats were entered this past weekend.  Jenna before Christmas was leading the way.  However, some bigger movies found their way into this category significantly increasing the totals.  Movies like The Gambler, The Imitation Game, Wild, and The Theory of Everything are all considered this season.  Jenna after Christmas is dead last.  Her fate in the standings lies on American Sniper move to wide release.

Twas the night before Christmas ...

... and all through the land.  The world was a buzz with hackers, North Koreans and Sony.  A movie named The Interview was in flux.  Wanted by the West and despised by the East.  What will happen to this movie?  Everyone wants to know.  The Interview is back but only in limited theaters.  Anyway you look at this, it has ramifications on the league.  If it only opens in limited theaters it hurts Colleen and helps Jenna.  If it does move to wide before the season's end, it may solidify Colleen's victory.

Looking at the league, Jenna moves into first in the Blockbusters.  Despite it's lackluster opening, Night of the Museum's $17 million was enough to over come Jeff's $2.5 million lead.  Jenna also moved closer to Colleen in the Multipliers.  Sweeping is tough and Jenna is position herself to bring out the broom.  But let us not forget who owns January.  Could Kevin Hart stall Jenna's comeback once again?

Tonights the night....

The Hobbit starts tonight at midnight!  Be the first to see the latest hobbit movie and then go to work on 3 hours of rest.  Ouch!  Opening might hurt it's sales for the weekend, but I bet it will still be a major factor in the standings, Chuck.  In other news, The Interview pulled due to hackers! Although not widely held, some members will be dipping into their alternates.  It's really sad to see outside forces cause influences such as this.  Around the league, not much change.  Jeff continues to lead the Blockbusters with Jenna hot on his heals.  The league starts to whittle down Colleen's massive lead in Multipliers.

First Gods, then Hobbits!

No change in the league this past week.   Nobody picked The Pyramid.  However, about half picked Exodus so there will be some movement after the weekend.  Reviews are pretty good for Exodus but it's looking a little dark.   Here is hoping the epic battle scenes in the trailer are prominent throughout the movie.

By the way, is anybody going to the mid-night showing of 'The Hobbit' on Wednesday?

Trophies, Trophies, Trophies

There are moments in life that you remember.  There are moments in your life that forgetting is just not an option.  Some moments are good and there are those that the word "great" just doesn't seem to describe it.  Then there are moments like these, that you prominently place on your mantel for all to see.  You want to show any who will listen that being the best means something.  Being number one is what the others desire.  But they can't be the best because you just won.

What is this moment that I speak of?  This "oh so glorious" moment that all others want so desperately to desire.  Well folks, this is a time in the history of Movie Mogul Madness that will be marked.  One for the ages they might say.  We now have traveling trophies!  That's right, a game changer! We here at 3M have our very own cup to carry show off, to carry, to kiss.

So yes, they are a little rough around the edges.  The point is, we have trophies. Rewards for our efforts.  More to come!

Looking at the league this week.  Jeff pulls to the lead in the Blockbusters.  However, with some weak openings at the top, it won't last long.  Colleen continues rule the Multiplier.

Teen fiction rules the box office!

Mockingjay makes a lot!  Tapping out at around $120 million opening, everyone received a boost.  Thanksgiving has come and gone.  The Christmas season is here like a steamroller laying waste to any remnants of bumps in the road (Halloween, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving...).   The question is will Horrible Bosses 2 and Penguins of Madagascar make an impact on the league.

There are two months left and almost have the league have 5 movies already released.  This might be wrapped up by Christmas!  Then again, Kevin Hart might have another release in January ....

A title for the fourth one should be 'More Dumb' ....

There is just one question that needs to be answered this morning.  Are you a fan of comic book movies? If you answer no, good luck avoiding them.  If you answer yes, Lenny, you have just saved the lives of millions of registered voters.  No but there are like 32 some comic book movies coming out in the next six years.  Sort of the same thing!  Head on over to Comic Alliance to read read about it or just look below to see the schedule.

Looking at the league, the dynamic duel are back on top and Colleen might have just clinched the Multipliers.  Dumb and Dumber To came out to the tune of a respectfully $36 million (for winter league) which had an impact on the league.  John and Jenna share he league in which is still a very close race.   However, in the Multipliers Colleen now has a firm grip on first being the first to a total a billion.  This week there will be no change since everyone picked Mockingjay Part 1 first.

I think everyone wants a Baymax...

Last weekend 's total box office take was the highest since the beginning of August.  Looks like the holidays are upon us.  The Halloween commas have worn off and prep for Thanksgiving feast (well at least the planning) have begun.  Big Hero 6 and Interstellar came up with decent openings.  Eventually, I hope the spreadsheet will be updated so that we can see comparisons between the seasons.

There was a shake up in the standings this week with last weeks opening.  Colleen now finds herself way out front in the Multipliers.  This past summer, Neighbors opened early on helping Colleen to a first place.  These 2 movies could have the same effect.  Out this week is Dumb and Dumber To which could put her out of reach for the rest of the season.

Thinking Baymax would be cool to have ...

Hey folks out in the land, the weekend is upon us.  What does this mean?  New movies are hitting the box office screens across the nation.  Opening up this week are Interstellar (out since Wednesday) and Big Hero 6.  A brief search over on RottenTomatoes.com shows that these two movies a generating a little buzz in the "freshness" column.  Both are held widely throughout the league, so there might be a bit of a shake up next week.

With Nightcrawler's meager opening of $10 million dollars has allowed for Ned to take over the top spot in the Blockbusters.  He now leads by over $3.5 million.  If the box office takes continue to be low, this could be a close year.  Oh who am I kidding?  The Hunger Games and The Hobbit are going to crush that.  In the Multipliers it is a different story.  John continues to hold a big lead by picking Fury so high.  However, you do know that if we let John spend too much time at the top he might get comfortable.
