The escape is a success...

The story so far ...
Dunkirk tops $50 million giving Faith the Blockbusters.  All that stands in her way is two cartoons and a sequel to a horror movie.  Mark's magic number stands at $112 million.

Ever since the league moved to a pick 'em style format, the quest for perfection has been a "tough row to hoe."  Up till this week, four teams had picked the top ten correctly this season.  That's "had" mind you because Dunkirk's $50 million opening knocked out The Mummy.  If none of the remaining movies crack the top ten, it stands now that six teams will have picked nine out of ten correctly.

Pickings were slim this summer.  Six movies were held by the entire league.  The highest number ever.  They were Guardians, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Despicable Me, Cars & Transformers.  Pirates had nine picks while Aliens had eight.  It really just came down to Apes, Mummies, & the boys of Dunkirk to determine the winner.

Up next is the always unpredictable Holiday Season.  Good bye all your safe "Tent Pole" Blockbusters.  My prediction is that diversity will be back ... and so will those awful six digit picks!

The Showdown...

The story so far ...
This has been a crazy year indeed.  Currently four teams sit at the top.  After this weekend, either the alternates will decide the Champion or Ned could take it all.  One way or another, this years champion will have successfully picked the top 10.  This to me sounds like another segment of "Screaming for Statistics."

So after the openings of Despicable Me 3, Spider-Man, & the War for the Planet of the Apes, the four are still on top.  If they stay there, then alternates will determine the champion.  Crazy because that would mean, three would have picked the top 10 correctly and then lost it on the 11th.  How cool would it be if they picked the 11th correctly too.  Someone brought their "A" game, but I digress.

Dissecting the alternate.  Jenna and Jamie picked Baywatch which made $18.5 million.  Looking at their 12th picks Captain Underpants destroyed DoaWK $23 million to $5 million.  Jamie then would be crowned champion.  However this week's showdown of Dunkirk and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets could claim the title for someone else if they beat out Baywatch. Faith has Dunkirk and Kevin has Valerian and a really big City.

There could be a dark horse.  Now if Dunkirk does really well, say more than $64.1 million, Ned could be claiming the top spot.  Amityville not opening this summer boosted Ned's chances and has given him a slight chance.  Nolan has had $60 plus million openings in the past with non-franchise movies.  All we can do is wait?

The contenders have been picked (literally).  Will it be the WWII greatest escape or the City with a ton of planets?  Or could it be a movie about hunky men and bodacious babes running around on a beach, so '90s?

So we are tired of the MCU ...

The story so far ...
Spider-Man comes in big and completely shakes up the Multipliers. Only one remained in their original spot. I don't think the War for the Planet of the Apes will have the same effect.  Although there is another month, the league really looks to be wrapping up this week. Tawny has a chance for a "Hail Mail" (to coin a football term) in August depending on what WftPotA does here this week.  Of course, if the Emoji Movie pulls in numbers like Spider-Man, than Mark has a chance.  Let's call him a "Dark Horse" (to coin a horse racing term).

I'm having a bad bad day. It's about time that I get my way...

The story so far ...
Despicable Me didn't exactly disappoint, but there was some who had higher expectations.  Up next is Spider-Man.  As we enter the second half, will fans flock to the cinemas to see the heavily promoted Sony's entry into the MCU?  Faith currently has a hold on the leagues but it could be slipping.  Ranking it 6th

In other news, some might have noticed Ned jumped in the Blockbusters.  This is because there is no longer a summer release date for Amityville: The Awakening.  For Ned, Alien: Covenant now becomes his 10th pick.  His 12th of War of the Planet of the Apes would had made things a bit more interesting.

Coming up after Spider-Man, is War for the Planet of the Apes.  Although widely picked, most ranked it only 8th or 9th.  This means that there will be some impact, especially if it does as well as it's predecessors ($69, $73, & $55 million respectfully).  This movie has the capability to make between $50 & $70 million or fall flat on it's face because it's the third one.

After Apes comes the "Battle of the Alternates."  As discussed last week, four teams are going to tie in the Blockbusters.  Looking at their 11th picks, two had Baywatch which came in at $18.5 million.  The other two have Dunkirk and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets which open in two weeks ... on the same weekend! It would be so cool, if there could be an Epic Rap Battle about this, just saying.

Finally, here is a little segment I like to call "Screaming for Statistics." Looking at the Multipliers, there are three that have the potential of winning.  It we place them on the spectrum it is easy to see why.  Bonus, it all hinges on Spider-Man, so we don't have to wait long!  As stated before, Spider-Man opens this weekend.  Faith picked it 6th.  Jenna picked it 4th, and Jeff picked it 2nd.  The colors represent how much Spider-Man makes. If the the opening falls in the blue (less than $52,354,313), then Faith wins.  If it falls in the Red ($less than $88,895,951), then Jenna wins.  If it falls in the yellow and beyond(more than $88,891,952), then Jeff wins.

(please excuse the white space, still playing with the software)
