The ending is near ... or it's hear

The story so far ...
So we have made it.  It's the final weekend of Spring League. Oh what a ride it has been.  First of all, we did not have a typical Spring League finish.  Ned has won by the largest margin ever, and has been in control for quite some time.  During the Spring League, it's all about who has what opening and when.  It creates this revolving door effect with a different leader each week.  This year resembled more of a Summer League finish with someone (Ned) gaining control with a big opening and riding it to the title.

Second of all, Spring League out grossed the Holiday Season.  There were more big openings this Spring than during the Holidays.  You know something is up when John Wick 2 managed to pull in a $30 plus million opening despite two other movies having bigger openings on the same weekend.  In fact, who knew that was going to be the third biggest weekend during the last two seasons.  It only lost to 'Rogue One' and 'Beauty and the Beast' opening weekends.  Even low budget, little advertised 'Get Out' managed to make over $30 million.  Is this a sign of the times or did everyone receive a big refund this year.

Third of all, looking ahead, BoxOfficeMojo.com is showing less openings for Summer League on the schedule than movies that opened this spring.  With Summer having an additional month, "tentpoles" usually come out during the summer and students at home instead of school, this has never happened.  In fact, this could be the lowest total of Summer releases since the league started.  This could mean for a closer race to the finish, but again, Spring has been a beast!

Picks are due in just under a week and a half.  Which movies will come away winners?  Losers?  Will you pick them?  These questions and more will be answered after Labor Day.  But let's not think about that just yet.  We don't won't to blow straight through summer ... and I digress ...

The crew still driving furiously ...

The story so far ...
In a recent issue of Entertainment Weekly, they discussed how much money this Spring movies are raking in at the box office.  Movies like Beauty and the Beast and Kong: Skull Island rake in quite a bit more than expected.  Marvel proved to still "got it" with Logan.  Finally the Fast and Furious franchise is still going strong after 8 movies.  Yes there are 2 more in the works.  Even the sequel to John Wick managed to pull in more than $30 million.

I can remember sitting back in January trying to decide what was going to make it big.  Little did I know, the hits were going to come early and often.  As we approach the finish, it came down to who picked the most.  Yes that was an obvious statement.  Ned has done well from top to bottom and now has a grip of first in both leagues.  Only The Circle is yet to open, but it needs to make A LOT for there to be any changes.

Season winding down ...

The story so far ...
This weekend marks the end for most of the league.  The Fate of the Furious rolls into theaters this Friday. Ned pretty much has the Blockbusters wrapped up.  He does have a sizable lead in the Multipliers, but John can make a last second push with it ranked higher.

In other news, I hope to work on the Summer movie list this weekend and get that out to you in the next couple of weeks.  Summer tentpoles, blockbuster bombs and the ever popular sequel will be out in full force!  Play if you dare.

Boss Baby taking charge ...

The story so far ...
So April is here.  Ned is literally crushing the league.  Gone is the two horse race of March.  With The Fate of the Furious being widely picked, just one movie can make a difference in April.  Yes, this league all boils down to little blue men.  On that note, who is your favorite Smurf?
