THE STORY SO FAR...
The final weekend has arrived. Labor Day Weekend is upon us. Football is all around and soon so will be leaves. As we approach the holiday weekend, let's look back at some of summer's biggest winners and of course a couple of losers. Thanks EW! Great, short article in the September 2nd issue.
First of all, superheroes and villains are not going anywhere anytime soon. Captain America, Suicide Squad and the X-Men all scored big this past summer. Cartoons did well too with Finding Dory raking in the big bucks. The Secret Life of Pets didn't do too shabby either. Finally, Kevin Hart continues to keep churning out decent box office openings while low-budget horror flicks continue to roll.
The biggest loser of the summer just happened to be the Ghostbusters making a sequel doubtful. I liked it however the masses did not. Pretty sure, the massive budget loss is becoming quite hard to ignore when pitching the next one. "Sure things" weren't successful either. Spielberg and Depp had low openings despite coming from known sources. Remakes didn't fair much better with Tarzan and Ben-Hur falling flat.
Fall is here and up next is the Holiday Season. Summer is over and if you didn't win, there is a new season on the horizon!
